IMPORTANT: We recommend that our clients traveling abroad take a photocopy of their passport and applicable visas. It should be packed separately from your actual passport and visa. We also recommend leaving a copy at home with your emergency contact. DESTINATION FACTS & STATS Time Zone The countries on this tour are six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. The currency in these countries is the Euro, except for Hungary, where it is the Forint. Electricity The voltage in the countries visited is 230 Volts. An adaptor (which changes the physical plug) and/or converter (which changes the electric current) are necessary if you plan to use an appliance with voltage different from the standard within the country you are visiting. Please note, if your appliance has dual voltage you may still need an adaptor for the plug. When packing your electronic items for travel, please review the converter electric current level to make sure it is the same or greater than the items you are planning on using. If you plan on utilizing or transporting a sleep apnea machine, please remember to pack an extension cord and adapter plug to ensure proper function. Esztergom Szentendre - $50 City: Esztergom Duration: 5 Hours Esztergom, the former residence of the Hungarian kings and seat of the Archbishop, is one of the highlights of this excursion. Your tour starts with a visit of the vast domed basilica, the largest cathedral in Hungary. Built in the early 19th century, it incorporates an ornate red marble chapel from an earlier church. Continue along the Danube to the imposing ruined fortress of Visegrad for a glorious view of the “knee” of the Danube. Then drive along the banks of the Danube to the artists’ village of Szentendre, a charming little town with two main churches showing signs of Serbian Orthodox influence and brightly painted Baroque houses in the town center. Szentendre has developed as a center for ceramics, thanks to the influence of the local artist Margit Kovacs, who lived from 1920 to 1977. Continue south to Budapest along the scenic west bank of the River Danube. The Schonbrunn Palace - $55 City: Vienna Duration: 3 Hours A coach takes you to one of the most beautiful monuments of Vienna, Schönbrunn Palace. The castle was built on the template of Versailles, the residence of the French King Louis XIV. As one of the most important cultural heritage in Austria, the castle and its gardens were declared as World Cultural Heritage sites. The reign of Maria Theresia signifies the most splendid era for Schönbrunn. The castle and park were the center of the courtly and political life and under the personal guidance of the Empress, it was remodeled and expanded to become a Royal residence. A complex with a total of 1,441 rooms and halls had been created. You will visit most of the ceremonial rooms and then have the opportunity to walk around in the beautifully designed gardens of the palace. Sound of Vienna Concert - $65 City: Vienna Duration: 3 Hours Enjoy an evening full of music a special orchestra event in a local venue sparks off a unique firework of the most beautiful compositions from the king of waltz, Johann Strauss, as well as beloved Mozart. Excellent musicians, opera singers and magical ballet dancers present an evening full of Viennese charm with beautiful waltzes, polkas and operetta melodies performed on their highest level. The Weltenburg Monastary Regensburg - $70 City: Regensburg Duration: 5 Hours A coach brings you towards Weltenburg, with a brief detour to the “Hall of Liberation,” a historical classical monument upon Mount Michelsberg above the city of Kelheim. This impressive marble building was fashioned after the Parthenon in Athens and towers high above the Danube. Afterwards board an excursion boat, which takes you past the former city of the Wittelsbacher through the nature reserve ”Weltenburger Enge” to the Benedictine abbey of Weltenburg. The monastery, founded by Irish or Scottish monks in about 620 AD, is the oldest monastery in Bavaria. After a short tour of the abbey church, you can taste the famous dark beer of Weltenburg, which is brewed on site in the oldest monastery brewery in the world. Nuremberg Documentation Center - $50 City: Nuremberg Duration: 3 Hours Visit the Nuremberg Documentation Center and view the permanent exhibition entitled “Fascination and Terror,” which examines the causes, context and consequences of the National Socialist reign during the years of the Third Reich. The Documentation Center is located on the former Nazi party rally grounds, where propagandist rallies were held from 1933 until 1938. To this day, the remains of the buildings with their immense proportions are a vivid testimony to the megalomania of the National Socialist regime. This area of eleven square kilometers was intended as an impressive backdrop for the Nazi party to demonstrate their power, and today the site serves as a poignant reminder of the past. Upon arrival in Rothenburg, enjoy a locally guided walking tour highlighting the towers, city gates, walls, and picturesque half-timbered gables of the town – all of which have remained unchanged for centuries. View the St. Jakob parish church, which houses Tilman Riemenschneider’s masterpiece, the Holy Blood Alter (Heiligblutaltar). Enjoy leisure time in Rothenburg before returning to the ship.
