A classic design by Robert Wood Johnstone built in 1895 and one of the three oldest courses in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. Opened for public play in 1995, the course is still maintained rigorously to the highest standards and is located just minutes from downtown San Francisco. This 18-hole course plays 6,500 yards of challenging golf winding through beautiful Eucalyptus and Monterey Pine trees in The City's trademark hills.

For more than 100 years, the landmark Presidio Golf Course was open for use to military personnel and members of a small private club. When the Department of Defense closed its San Francisco Presidio Army installation, the golf course was transferred to the National Park Service and opened as a public facility.

As the second oldest course west of the Mississippi, the Presidio Golf Course has an interesting and unique history. The challenging 6,500 yard course was established on a U.S. Army post in 1895 by a group of civilians. Originally a 9 hole course, the Presidio Golf Course was built with horse-drawn plows on grounds that were regularly used for cavalry practice.

Tee times were shared by private club members and high-ranking military officers. By 1908, demand for expansion grew and the Army approved plans to expand the course to 18 holes. Over the years, the course has been host to a number of prominent golfers including Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Bing Crosby and Arnold Palmer. Given the legendary history of the Presidio Golf Course, it is only fitting that the National Park Service has selected Arnold Palmer to operate this prestigious course.

The Presidio Golf Course has an interesting history in its more than 110 years of existence. This club's story has been intermingled with the US Army at its previous home in the Presidio of San Francisco. For decades, the golf course was part of the Army's base and operations. Today, as a result of the Department of Defense downsizing, the course is under control of the Presidio Trust and open to the public. The Palmer Management Co. performs course management and operations.

Designed with tight fairways and strategically placed bunkers, this 18-hole "hilly" golf course offers a unique challenge for golfers of all abilities. Originally designed by Robert Wood Johnstone, the course was expanded in 1910 by Johnstone in collaboration with Wiliam McEwan and redesigned and lengthened in by the British firm of Fowler & Simpson in 1921.

Over the years, the course has been host to a number of prominent golfers including Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Bing Crosby and Arnold Palmer.

For those inquirers requesting a trip within two weeks of play, we will give you a priority due to your need to establish a plan. At any rate, we will respond to your requests as quickly as possible and as soon as we have all components of your package confirmable. Also, keep in mind that some of our golf packages are time sensitive requiring an advance purchase to receive the lowest available rates.
