A COMPLETE GOLF PROGRAM
FOR THE ALAMO CITY AREA
This
package includes all lodging, golf and related taxes:
Day
1 - Arrive
San Antonio for checkin at The
LaQuinta Inn and Suites Northwest. Play The Quarry Golf Club enroute
to hotel.
THE QUARRY GOLF CLUB
Perhaps
no other city can boast of a site less than ten minutes from downtown
that
would match that of The Quarry Golf Club, a Keith Foster design opened
in 1993 that is one of the most unusual layouts anywhere. At 6,740
yards
from the back tees, its moderate length may lull you into a false sense
of security. Make no mistake about it, this is a very difficult golf
course
that changes personality in a hurry.
The
watery, treeless front nine lies
between an adjacent expressway, railroad tracks and an office complex
--
not exactly a serene golf experience. Tall heather abounds, adding an
esthetic
touch with a propensity to swallow golf balls.
An
entirely different experience
awaits as you descend into the quarry for the back nine. It's one
beastly
hole after another, with carries over waste bunkers, narrow fairways,
and
400 extra yards.
The setting, however is something
to behold. The sheer walls of the quarry extend up to a rim lined with
luxury homes, and the factory where limestone was once converted into
concrete
is now the upscale Quarry Market mall. It's urban renewal, with a touch
of The Flintstones' Bedrock.
Day
2 - Preferred tee time
at Hyatt's Hill Country Golf Club.
Hyatt HILL COUNTRY
GOLF
CLUB
The
Hill Country Golf Club,
nestled in San Antonio's Hill Country, meets all the standards of a
truly great golf club. The 6,913-yard course is a beautiful, but
challenging 27-hole course designed by the nationally acclaimed golf
course architectural firm, Arthur Hills and Associates.
A number of Arthur Hills and Associates courses are nationally
recognized, including Eagle Trace, the TPC course at Coral Springs,
Florida, which hosts the PGA Tour Honda Classic. In its first year,
Hill Country Golf Course was nominated for best new resort by Golf
Digest. It was also listed among Golf Magazine's Top Ten Courses You
Can Play and was the recipient of Corporate Meetings and Incentives
Golden Links Award.
Day
3 - Preferred tee time
at Canyon Springs Golf Club.
CANYON
SPRINGS GOLF CLUB
The
7,077-yard
layout was
designed by Thomas Walker. Don't worry if you've never heard of him; if
this place reaches its potential, you'll surely be seeing more of his
name
in the future.
Canyon
Springs
is set in
a scenic oak forest covering a series of hills. The isolated routing
makes
you feel as if you're on top of a private mountain, as no two fairways
run parallel. Some might expect a tricked-up course with wild elevation
swings and long forced carries. Instead, the design blends in with its
environment instead of taking advantage of it.
There were some heated discussions
during construction on whether or not to leave some strategically
placed
trees, and in the end, the correct decisions were made. The result is a
thinking person's layout where placement off the tee is critical and
the
huge greens can make for wildly different pin positions. One of the
most scenic courses in San Antonio, this stop will surely please all!
Day
4 - Preferred tee time
at The Bandit Golf Club (New
Braunfels, Tx.).
THE
BANDIT GOLF CLUB
The
Bandit appeals to all golfers but especially to the purist. With water
in play on 12 holes and 100 foot elevation differentials and pristine
condition
this course offers an unforgetable experience. Not a single hole is
embraced
by housing. The Bandit is a delightful "change of pace" experience
waiting
for the golfer who enjoys a challenge of some unforgettable holes while
enjoying the twisting, rolling terrain of the historical Texas Hill
Country.Whether
its the breathtaking views,
the pristine condition of the course or the first class treatment by an
accommodating staff you will remember The Bandit!
Day 5 -
Preferred tee time
at La Cantera Golf Club.
LA
CANTERA GOLF CLUB
La Cantera recent former
site of
the PGA
Tour's Texas Open since 1995. Located on the north side of
town,
this thrill-a-minute design by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish has made
quite
a bit of noise since its debut. It was a Golf Magazine "Top 10 You Can
Play" in its first year and continues to set its sights high.
Speaking of roller coasters, the
seventh hole provides one of the most remarkable scenes in all of golf.
The tee shot on this 316-yard par four drops 80 feet down to the
fairway,
set in the bottom of an old limestone quarry. However, your eyes seem
glued
to what sits to the left of the hole: The Fiesta Texas Amusement Park,
complete with "The Rattler," a huge wooden roller coaster directly on
the
other side of a fence from the green. Every 40 seconds or so, your
concentration
is interrupted by the shrieks of yet another group of thrill seekers as
they cascade down the coaster's initial drop.
In
addition to the championship 18-hole
Resort Course at La Cantera, the resort gained another 18 holes
in the spring of 2001 with the opening of the Palmer
Course at La Cantera,
designed by golfing legend Arnold Palmer. The resort’s acclaimed Golf
Academy
features state-of-the-art equipment, a talented staff, and specially
designed
corporate and group programs.

Player Notes about
this Course -
This
unique
design has become a landmark for San Antonio. The front 9 was built in
the bowl of an old rock quarry, And there are several quarries within
the quarry creating carries that will stop moment until your ball
crosses the void. Accurate off the tee box is the order of the day. And
you may want to go down one loft with your iron shots on your approach
as moct of the greens are built up. As a result, you find yourself
shooting uphill to the green. This is one of the most enjoyable rounds
to be had here in The Alamo City!

Player Notes about
this Course -
Although
this
course is one of the oldest resort-style clubs in San Antonio, the
design is still very modern with the signature Arthur Hills fairway
mounding with many greens tucked into the native surrounding and not
always accessible to reach in regulation and depending upon your
drive placement. It has (3) 9s - The
Oaks, The Creeks and The Lakes. Even though this is a 27-hole
facility, only (2) 9s are open on any given day to allow a rotation of
the 3rd 9. This practice has worked very well in maintaining the top
conditions this club is noted for. Its a superb layout!

Player Notes about
this Course -
One of our most original and scenic designs incorporating hills,
valleys, bluffs, natural springs, this was the site of the last
stagecoach stop back in the wild west period. There are several
dramatic carries from many of the intermediate and back tees making the
thought process off the tee somewhat focused. But the greens are
oversized and easy to hit once you are on the fairways. This is a
class-act effort by the management team and will certainly be one of
the more memorable plays here in San Antone!

Player Notes about
this Course -
This club
is located approximately 30 minutes north of San Antonio but we think
its worth the drive. Course was built on fertile and somewhat open
farmland with rolling fairways and mostly elevated tee boxes and
greens. Although wind can play a factor, this course's real challenge
can be overcome by well-placed iron shots and a good putting stroke.
The Bandit is a very enjoyable playing experience!
|
|
The
Bandit will steal your heart. It is as
breathtaking as
it is
treacherous.
You will need to hit every club in your bag. Situated on Lake McQueeney
and Long Creek, water is in play on 13 of the 18 already dramatic
holes.
The Bandit also boasts 71 sand traps to make your round a little more
interesting.
The Bandit
appeals to all golfers
but especially to the purist. With 100 foot elevation differentials and
pristine condition this course offers an unforgettable experience. The
Bandit is a delightful "change of pace" experience waiting for the
golfer
who enjoys a challenge of some unforgettable holes while enjoying the
twisting,
rolling terrain of the historical Texas Hill Country.
SOME CHALLENGING
HOLES
Hole
five
is a 326-yard par 4, with a
fairway that slopes steeply from right to left toward Long Creek. Tee
shots hit far to the right will roll back to center, if not further,
while anything hit to the center will wind up left of the cart path, if
you're lucky. The approach shot uphill to the elevated green is guarded
by bunkers on the left, but again you can play your shot off the hill
to the right and wind up in the center of the green.
Number
12 is a beautiful hole that starts with a downhill shot off the tee. As
on many holes, the wide fairway makes this first shot uneventful. It's
the approach that challenges: another downhill shot to a green
surrounded on three sides by Bandit Bay. A small marina sits just
offshore, but don't be distracted by the view, an overzealous approach
can easily bounce off the green and into the water. Hit it short and
you face a tricky chip that can also skid off the back.
Providing
welcome relief, number 17 is a short but pretty par three, measuring 89
yards from the Copper tees. It does require a carry over the creek, but
there is room behind the green is you hit it long. Number 18 is often
called the best par 5 in the hill country. At 437 yards, it's not
overly long, but challenges golfers with a design that requires careful
play.
Number
18 is a dogleg right, and trees guard the fairway closely on the
left, while the creek runs along the right before crossing the fairway.
A split fairway offers several different options in approaching the
elevated green. This is no time to let down your guard; you need to
really think through the hole.

Player Notes about
this Course -
There's
plenty of
trouble to be found on this course. But keep your driver down the
middle and par (or better) is acheivable. Designed for true tournament
play, you get excellent roll off the tee box. However, you can also get
too much roll on your approaches and find yourself at the back of the
green or worse. Greens are generally cut short and you will find few
flat spots on these greens. Take heed of the closest mountain as putts
tend to roll towards them when as they lose momentum. Be sure to arrive
in plenty of time to use this clubs driving range and practice
faciliities. They are top-grade!

The 7,001-yard

over three hilltops, serving up views of the surrounding terrain. Some
holes seem like a game of "can-you-top-this," with dramatic elevation
changes,
carries over ravines, and risk-reward opportunities. But La Cantera
pulls
this off without being gimmicky because it's the roller-coaster
property,
not the design, that causes the drama.
Speaking

In 1914, local grocer Edward Franz Melcher opened Hotel Havana with a
vision to recreate the tropical allure of the hotel’s Caribbean
namesake. He built in the Mediterranean Revival style popular in Cuba
at the time, and many of the surrounding cypress, palm and magnolia
trees he planted still remain. The hotel served as a temporary
residence for Melcher’s visiting vendors, beginning a storied legacy
that includes FBI stings, acts of God and other colorful events
befitting a grand and legendary hotel. In April 2010, Hotel Havana was
reopened under the humble care of Liz Lambert and her team at
Bunkhouse. The hotel is listed in the National Register of Historic
Places, but manages to maintain its youthful spirit nonetheless.
The property is

With
Southern Breeze, you come first. If when
you play is an important factor to you and your playing
partners, we get there first. You can be assured that our tee
times are generally the best of the
day because we access the tee sheets well before the general
public and usually 30-120 day days in advance.
And, although we are accustomed to serving foursomes and larger groups,
we can also assist the single player in most cases. Our unique advance
planning service insures that you play when you want to.
Whether it is teeing it up at one of the many resort destinations that
we represent or our individual and highly-ranked golf clubs listed
throughout our web site, rest assured with a premium
golf tee time from Southern Breeze Golf Tours.
